Marvel at the monuments in Westminster Abbey

For those wanting to experience a bit of historical Britain and take in some of its magnificent buildings, a trip to Westminster Abbey may be well worthwhile.

Over one million visitors come to explore the 700-year-old building every year, according to its website.

As well as wandering around and exploring the abbey for themselves, people can also take part in one of the many tours that are on offer.

Considered to be an architectural masterpiece from the 13th to 16th centuries, Westminster Abbey is still a fully working place of worship and has seen many a royal wedding and funeral in its time.

Also of interest may be the 600 memorials and statues which are dotted around the abbey to form the most important single collection on monumental sculpture in the country.

Westminster Abbey is open on weekdays and Saturdays for visitors, but closed on Sundays for worship.
