St Martin-in-the-Fields is a church gracing the north-east corner of Trafalgar Square at the heart of England’s capital city.

It is a Church of England establishment which is known as one of the most famous non-cathedral churches in the country, due to its prominent position.

St Martin-in-the-Fields holds services for both English and Chinese speaking congregations every day and is also famous for its work with homeless people.

In 2006 a £36 million building project was undertaken to restore the church as its surrounding buildings into a “new sequence of beautiful, practical and inspirational spaces to serve the community, visitors and those in need”, its official website states.

During these excavations, a grave dating back to 410AD was discovered.

Housed in the crypt of the church, where concerts are often held, is the London Brass Rubbing Centre, an art gallery, a cafe and gift shop.

Another famous religious building in London is Westminster Abbey which hosted the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953.
