Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge has become an iconic symbol of London; it is a combined bascule and suspension bridge over the River Thames.

The bridge has stood over the River Thames since 30 June of 1894 and was officially opened by The Prince Edward of Wales and his wife Alexandra the Princess of Wales, now is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the world.

The high-level walkways between the towers gained an unpleasant reputation being used by prostitutes and pickpockets and it has been closed in 1910.

However, in 1982 they were reopened as part of the Tower Bridge Exhibition. Visitors can appreciate the stunning views of the River Thames and loads of famous London sites.

The exhibition also uses films, photos and interactives to explain why and how Tower Bridge was built.

Tourists can also descend into the Victorian Engine Rooms, home of the original steam engines. Exciting hands-on mechanisms and information panels explain about the ingenious technology used over the years to keep Tower Bridge in motion.
