Indulge yourself: visit the famous Topshop

Review by Ella

No self-respecting shopper should visit London without checking out Topshop: it’s one of the most famous and successful high-street clothes shop chains in the country, and the flagship store on Oxford Street is the biggest of them all. It’s a world in its own right and could easily fill a day out all by itself .

My experience

The first time I walked into the shop, I looked around at all the accessories – walls of necklaces and matching earrings, rack upon rack of bracelets, hair clips, belts, everything you can name or think of – and wondered where the clothes were. It took me a minute or two to figure out that the clothes were on a different floor; this floor was just for accessories (although there is also a sweets section for a bit of sugar-induced energy).

My personal favourite is the next floor down, which houses Topshop’s own clothes, as well as the famous and beautifully designed Kate Moss range, exclusive to Topshop. But the real treasure here is the Topshop Unique section, a range of vintage one-off clothes that guarantee you’ll be the only person wearing it. The Unique clothes are unfailingly gorgeous – you might find it hard to resist running your hands over everything! Many of the skirts and dresses are made of silk or chiffon, while the jumpers are cashmere – everything is incredible quality and almost irresistible!

There’s also a Topman floor that you’ll have to drag your male friends away from – the place is chock-full of the coolest and most original clothes you’ll see in London.

It does get very busy, so it’s best to go on a weekday if you can, otherwise you might find yourself having to fight for the last top in your size!

Directions

The store is located in the very centre of the main shopping streets in London – the junction between Oxford Street and Regent Street. Come out of Oxford Circus tube station (on the Victoria, Central and Bakerloo underground lines), and you can’t miss it – it’s directly across the street (or even right in front of you, depending on which exit you take!)

Alternatively, you can take a bus – the 73, 10 and 390 buses all go to Oxford Circus from King’s Cross St Pancras, or the 7 goes from Russell Square – but bear in mind that the underground is a lot quicker!

Hot tip

Visit the other famous clothes shops in the area. It’s a true paradise!
