Review: Hyde Park

Get away from the city in lush green Hyde Park

Review by Ella

Hyde Park is one of the oldest and largest (350 acres) parks in the country – you can spend hours wandering around and can get lost if you’re not careful! Because it’s so big, there’s no danger of overcrowding even on the busiest and hottest days, and you can be certain that you’ll be able to find a grassy spot to have a sit down and a rest.

My experience

If you’re stuck for something to do or have an afternoon to spare, I definitely recommend heading down to Hyde Park for a while. One of the nicest things about it is that there’s always things going on, and there’s something for everyone no matter what their interests.

If you get hungry, there are plenty of cafes scattered around the park, as well as ice cream stalls and vans to keep your sweet tooth satisfied! There is a playground for people with children, and sports courts if you feel like a bit of activity.

In this weather, one of the best things about Hyde Park is the Serpentine Lido, an outdoor unheated swimming pool (as well as a paddling pool for the less brave!) – it’s the perfect way to cool off during the summer months. If you don’t fancy getting that close to the water, though, you can hire a boat and paddle down The Serpentine reservoir.

The Serpentine itself is an art gallery located in the middle of Hyde Park, showing modern and contemporary art collections and exhibitions and entry is completely free – so you can pop in to see what’s hot in the art world as you stroll through the park!

Directions

The easiest way to reach Hyde Park from the Generator is to take the Piccadilly Line from Russell Square to Hyde Park Corner.

Other tube stations near and around the park are: Knightsbridge, Queensway, Lancaster Gate.

Hot tip

During summer, take a bottle of water with you so you don’t get dehydrated, and make sure you wear a good, high factor sunscreen!

If you’re planning a chilled-out day, take a good book with you and get stuck in under the sun… perfect!
