British Museum

Founded in 1753 the British Museum is the oldest national public museum in the world, it has a collection from all time and all civilizations. Some of them are key objects like the Rosetta stone, the fantastic collection of mummies, the Greek and Roman statues as well as extraordinary objects from Africa, Mexico and America.

The museum covers every period after human beings have started making things so you can see sculpture, pottery and jewelery; you will find here anything people have produced except for paintings. The earliest piece is about 2 million years old (a prehistoric tool) and some of the most modern things displayed here were made this year.

Exploring the museum can be a personal experience and there are a number of guided tours. Some of them are free but if you are focusing on a particular civilization or some of the key objects, there are so called highlight tours available that can show you what you want to see for a minimal charge. Tours are running daily.

In the reading room in the Great Court you can use interactive computer screens that help you to find out about the exhibition objects and the collections as well as the civilizations that are represented here, people get a deeper insight of different religions and cultures while experiencing the world under one roof.
