Congestion Charge

Congestion pricing or congestion charges is a system of surcharging users of a transport network in periods of peak demand to reduce traffic congestion

The Congestion Charge is a charge that is paid by motorists who drive into Specific areas of London – which includes Central London.

You can pay up to 90 days in advance. So, for example, you could pay for one day, three days, a week, two weeks, a month or a year. If you pay monthly or annually there are discounts available, and you can claim refunds in certain circumstances.

A payment of £8 is required for each day a vehicle enters or travels within the zone between 7am and 6pm (Monday-Friday only).

If you forget to pay the charge on the day of travel you have until midnight the next day to pay without receiving a fine. After that you can expect to be given a penalty of £120, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.

You can pay online, by phone 0207 649 91, via text message, in person at various outlets, by post, or at BT Internet kiosks.
