Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is widely considered the most prestigious. The tournament takes place every summer in late June and early July, and the world of tennis descends on Wimbledon for two weeks of tennis, strawberries and cream and good-natured queuing.
The tournament attracts around 500,000 spectators and millions of television viewers worldwide. Players from more than 60 nations compete in front of a crowd of millions worldwide, through the press, radio, internet and television.
The Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon have developed from the garden party atmosphere of the first meeting in 1877, witnessed by a few 100 spectators, to a highly professional tournament attracting an attendance of close to 500,000 people.
Come and watch some great sporting heroes play and indulge in a traditional snack of strawberries and cream.
Approximately 62,000 pounds of strawberries and 1,540 gallons of cream are sold each year during the Championships.
