Greenwich Festival – Summer Session

Head to Greenwich for open-air concert

Musicians and orchestras will be heading to Greenwich this summer to take part in the celebrations heralding the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics.

The Greenwich Summer Sessions will take place from 21st to 23rd July at the Old Royal Navy College on the banks of the Thames, with What’s On When reporting that the live music will also pay homage to the heritage of the area.

This year’s festival has the theme of Rebels and will be held in honour of Wat Tyler, who led 50,000 peasants from Blackheath in a revolt that saw them storm on the Tower of London.

Keeping with the letter R, themes of Runners, Royals and Rivers will follow.

Along with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, pop band Athlete, folk act The Levellers and Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra will all be performing.

Meanwhile, for a musical change of pace, people could head to Shoreditch for its 1234 Festival on July 24th, where popular bands and artists will be on the agenda.
