As the end of the month approaches, the Theatre Royal Haymarket’s run of Waiting for Godot will come to an end.
Regarded by many as one of the 20th century’s most significant plays, the 2010 adaptation of the Samuel Beckett classic is again directed by Sean Mattias and features an all-star cast.
The lead roles of Estragon and Lucky are reprised by Sir Ian McKellen and Roland Pickup, while award-winners Roger Rees and Matthew Kelly join the production as Vladimir and Pozzo.
With Waiting for Godot, Beckett was said to have created a near impossibility of theatre – “a play in which nothing happens, that yet keeps audiences glued to their seats” – as one critic noted.
Originally written in French and completed in 1949, the Absurdist play is the story of two men chatting, arguing, joking and waiting for the arrival of the mysterious Godot.
Ticket prices vary from £16 to £48.50 and there are no performances on Mondays. Showing times can be obtained from the Theatre Royal Haymarket website and the run finishes on April 3rd.
