Celebrate Diwali in the heart of London

Anyone planning an autumn break in the capital could make their way to Trafalgar Square on November 5th to celebrate Diwali 2010.

The annual Festival of Lights has become a popular celebration in London and will see the venue transformed with Indian music and south Asian decorations.

A special religious event for Sikhs, Hindus and Jains, Diwali marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness, coinciding with the new moon.

Theatre and traditional dance will also be taking place in the evening on the square, in addition to speeches and short prayers.

Between December 2nd 2010 and January 3rd 2011, Trafalgar Square is host to a huge Christmas tree gifted to Britain from the people of Oslo in thanks for help given during World War II.

The heart of the capital, the location is a must see for visitors with its statue of Lord Nelson surrounded by stone lions, the National Gallery and the Fourth Plinth, now used to host contemporary art.
