Copenhagen’s Open Air Museum

Visitors to Copenhagen should not miss out on a visit to one of the world’s largest and oldest museums in the world, the Open Air Museum. As its name would suggest, this museum is made up of not one indoor gallery, but more than 50 farms, mills and houses from the period of 1650 to 1950.

Spread over 86 acres of land, the museum represents not only Denmark’s history but also that of Sweden and north Germany, providing a wide breadth of information for visitors.

Buildings include a small holder’s cottage, a water mill and a country manor, all of which are fully furnished and give people the chance to see what life was like at the time of the nation’s famous writer Hans Christian Anderson.

The houses are also fully equipped, and have a kitchen maid, fishwife and shopkeeper ready to greet visitors.
The buildings are set in grounds which also reflect the time period, boasting running streams and beautiful open landscapes.
