Experience real rock, metal and electro at the Magnet Club
Review by Vincent Alblas
In the core of Berlin’s roaring belly of hard rock, metal , electro, and other music you won’t hear on MTV, there’s one club you definitely need to check out if you’re in the German capital. Magnet Club (or simply called Magnet) is a cheap, down-to-earth club without hip rich kids and other people that don’t feel comfortable in a dirty alternative place like Magnet.
The ideal spot for partying if you don’t like to pay high entrance fees or be in the middle of a bunch of pretenders, show-offs and wannabe’s who only care if the label on their Dolce & Gabbana jeans can be seen by everyone in the club.
My experience
Magnet (and its audience) is cool without having pretensions. No one will look at you here for the way you move. People dance, jump and bang their heads here because they feel like it, not because they have to.
The music, as I mentioned before, is a mix between rock, metal and electro in all its sorts and varieties. There are two rooms; one of them being a typical dancefloor and the other a stage for live music. I’ve seen many upcoming punk bands taking the stage during my visits to Magnet.
Downside of the venue is the relatively young audience on some nights, though these 17 and 18 year old kids do not disturb me that much. Another downside is that the club is situated in a not so vibrant area. If you want to drink something in a good bar before going to the club, you will have to take the tram. Around Magnet you will only be able to find döner kebab shops and 24/7 supermarkets. But with ten minutes on the tram you’re at Alexanderplatz or with five minutes on the S-Bahn train you’re at Ostkreuz where you can find a plethora of bars and restaurants.
For me personally Magnet Club has always offered me an enjoyable night out. If you’re only a little bit like me, I think you will like Magnet too. I’m not going to give you any refunds though.
Hot tip
See one of the unknown or more established live performances at Magnet. You will have to pay a little more for concerts than for regular dance nights, but it’s worth it.
