Berlin gallery and the two roses in a beer bottle

 

Visitors to Berlin will no doubt want to enjoy some of the city’s fine art galleries and museums, but when your thirst for knowledge is fulfilled, why not try out some of the cafes and restaurants these fantastic buildings have to offer?

The Berlinische Galerie collects, maintains, researches and showcases art “from and around Berlin”, from 1870.

Displaying famous pieces such as the Wild Ones (die Jungen Wilden), expressionism work and representations of the city under the sign of the swastika, the gallery is a popular spot for tourists and locals.

But the museum also offers a fantastic eatery – Cafe Dix, which carries significant meaning behind its unusual decor.

On each table there are two roses in a beer bottle, a reference to Otto Dix’s painting,

When Eberhard Roters, former director of the gallery, opened the building, he declared that the roses in the bottle were the “secret emblem” of the museum.

The poet Ivan Von Lucken, painted in 1926, which shows the impoverished poet in tattered clothes, alongside beauty and poetry in the form of two yellow roses in a green beer bottle.
