Check out Berlin’s annual gay festival

Tourists visiting Berlin next month may wish to join in the festivities at the annual Lesbian and Gay City Festival, which takes place on June 20th-21st.

Now in its 17th year, the 2009 event is being held in Nollendorfplatz and will feature five venues playing house, techno, seventies and eighties music, as well as a variety of lesbian and gay entertainers and DJs.

Over 350,000 people are expected to attend over the course of the weekend and information booths, market stalls, a beer garden and a cocktail lounge will be available to keep visitors entertained.

The “wild sofa” show is also set to return for another year, which will see political and cultural guests interviewed on the main stage each afternoon.

Also taking place in Berlin next month is the annual Carnival of Cultures, which begins on May 29th in the Kreuzberg district and will feature nearly 5,000 performers, musicians and DJs.
