Berlin ‘worth visiting for budget break’

Berlin offers people the chance of enjoying a far cheaper break than many other European cities, according to one sector commentator.

Klaus Lohmann, UK and Ireland director for the German National Tourist Office, said there are now many direct flights available to the German capital that “don’t cost a fortune”.

“Travelling by train can save you lots of money and many of the hostels are of [a] high standard,” he explained.

Mr Lohmann continued that German food is well worth a try, with delicacies such as sausages and beer tasting different in each state, while there are also plenty of fish dishes to try around the coast.

“Berlin is the place to be and definitely one of the hippest places in Europe,” he claimed, adding that the city is packed with designer boutiques, galleries, quality restaurants and popular clubs.

People planning a visit to the city next month may wish to leave room in their schedule for a trip to the Berlin Festival.

Taking place at the former Tempelhof Airport from September 10th – 11th, What’s On When tells music fans to expect everything from new rave to chart-topping indie on the bill.
