Honour the past at Berlin’s Holocaust Memorial
Those wanting to pay tribute to the Jewish victims of the Second World War during a trip to Berlin could pay a visit to the Holocaust Memorial.
Located in the centre of the city, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe features architect Peter Eisenman’s Field of Stelae.
The site also houses an underground Information Centre that provides information about this period of history for visitors and is open each day from 10am to 8pm between April and September.
At the facility, people can watch holocaust survivors describe their experiences in a series of video interviews.
The memorial is free of charge to enter with the opportunity for visitors to make donations for its upkeep.
Containing 2,711 concrete slabs, the Field of Stelae is open 24 hours a day in tribute to the victims of the Nazi Holocaust.
It opened in May 2005 and covers a total of 19,000 square metres with the stelae arranged in a grid pattern and each measuring 0.95cm deep and 2.38m wide, with varying heights and narrow alleyways in between to allow people to walk through the monument.
