Some visitors to Berlin may wish to party long into the night, but one event allows them to do so into another decade.
The Gendarmenmarkt in the city centre will be open all day on New Year’s Eve and then provide the biggest party in town as the first decade of the third millenium comes to an end.
Known as the WeihnachtsZauber, the event starts with a DJ at 07:00 local time and ends at 01:00 the following year, with tickets available for 10 Euros (£9.02).
In between, there is music including performances by the band Hit Mama, a production of the play ‘Dinner for One’ and fireworks at midnight.
All in all, it could be just the way for revellers to see in the New Year.
As an alternative, each new year now sees an open air concert at the Brandenburg Gate, which used to mark the division of the city as the wall ran though it before 1989.
